Microblading in Geneva: Natural Hair-Stroke Brows

Imagine waking up with full, symmetrical, perfectly shaped eyebrows every single day. Microblading — semi-permanent hair-stroke brows — is a manual permanent make-up (PMU) technique that rebuilds the brow line one tiny stroke at a time, for a result so realistic it blends seamlessly with your own hairs. At our specialist studio in Geneva, every treatment is designed bespoke, following strict Swiss hygiene standards.

What is microblading?

Microblading is a form of manual cosmetic pigmentation. Using a handheld tool fitted with a fine blade of micro-needles, the artist deposits pigment into the superficial layers of the skin by drawing tiny incisions that mimic the shape and growth direction of a real hair. Unlike a conventional tattoo, the pigment sits shallow — which is exactly what creates that lifelike hair-stroke effect and the semi-permanent wear that fades gradually over time.
Microblading is ideal for filling in sparse brows, restructuring an over-plucked shape, correcting asymmetry, or restoring density to brows thinned by age. The goal is never a flat, drawn-on line, but a living texture in harmony with your face.

Microblading vs ombré vs combo

  • Microblading (hair-stroke): crisp, fine strokes and the most natural finish; best for normal-to-dry skin and anyone wanting a subtle look.
  • Ombré / powder brows: a soft, made-up gradient created with a machine, gentler at the tail; well suited to oily or combination skin.
  • Combo brows: the best of both — hair strokes at the front, ombré shading behind — blending realism with definition.
During your consultation we decide together which technique best suits your skin, lifestyle and desired effect.

What happens during a session

1. Consultation and patch test

Everything begins with a conversation. We assess your skin type, brow shape, expectations and any relevant history. A patch test with the pigment is performed to reduce the risk of a reaction. This step matters: if there is any doubt about a contraindication, always consult a healthcare professional first.

2. Mapping (measuring and pre-drawing)

Using facial measurements and a mapping thread, we pencil in the future architecture of your brows: the start point, the arch, the tail. Nothing is pigmented until you have approved the shape in the mirror.

3. Choosing the pigment

The shade is matched to your complexion, hair colour and existing brow hairs. We use quality pigments so the result ages gracefully without turning an unwanted tone.

4. Creating the strokes

After a comfort-numbing cream is applied, the artist draws each stroke individually, following the natural direction of growth. The sensation stays very manageable. Allow roughly 1.5 to 2 hours for a new set.

The 4-6 week perfecting touch-up: a mandatory step

Microblading is always a two-part process. The first session lays the foundation; the 4-6 week perfecting touch-up is essential to fill in any strokes that did not fully retain pigment, adjust the tone and build density. Skin heals differently from one person to the next — this second pass is what guarantees a polished, long-lasting result. A new set without its touch-up is unfinished work.

The healing timeline, day by day

Every skin is different, but here are the broad stages:
  • Days 1-2: brows look darker and sharper than the final result. Mild swelling is possible.
  • Days 3-5: the colour deepens further before thin scabs form. This is normal.
  • Days 6-10: the scabs flake off on their own. Above all, do not pick — you could pull out the pigment.
  • Days 10-14: brows may look very light, almost gone. Don't panic — this is the "ghosting" phase.
  • Weeks 3-4: colour resurfaces and settles. The true result appears.
  • Weeks 4-6: time for the perfecting touch-up.

The benefits of microblading

  • A "wake-up ready" look and a genuine daily time-saver.
  • A natural finish that is hard to tell from real hairs.
  • A solution for sparse, over-plucked or ageing brows.
  • Correction of asymmetry.
  • Ideal for people allergic to pencils/gels, for athletes, or for anyone who perspires easily.

Who it's for — and who it's not for

Microblading suits most people wanting to redraw or add density to their brows, especially on normal-to-dry skin.
Some situations require prior medical advice or postponement: pregnancy and breastfeeding, uncontrolled diabetes, blood-thinning medication, healing disorders (keloids), certain skin conditions or active dermatoses in the area, recent isotretinoin treatment, ongoing chemotherapy. Very oily skin often achieves a better result with ombré. This information is general and does not replace medical advice: if in doubt, consult a healthcare professional.

Longevity and the touch-up schedule

Microblading lasts on average 1 to 3 years depending on your skin type, sun exposure, aftercare and metabolism. The pigment fades gradually; maintenance touch-ups refresh the colour.
Oily skin needs more frequent maintenance: sebum disperses the pigment and softens the strokes faster, which is why a quarterly touch-up may be recommended in that case.

Aftercare

Your healing accounts for about half of the final result. Our guidelines:
  • Keep the area dry for the first few days: no sauna, steam room, swimming pool or intense sport.
  • Do not scratch or pick the scabs.
  • Apply the recommended repair cream in a thin layer, as instructed.
  • Avoid make-up over the area while it heals.
  • Protect from the sun and apply sunscreen (SPF) once healed: sun is the number-one enemy of longevity.
  • Avoid sleeping face-down for the first few nights.

Frequently asked questions

Does microblading hurt? Most clients describe a mild, tolerable scratching sensation. A comfort-numbing cream is applied to minimise any discomfort.
How long does a session take? Around 1.5 to 2 hours for a new set, including consultation and mapping.
Is the 4-6 week touch-up really necessary? Yes. It is an integral part of the treatment and determines the quality and durability of the result.
How long does it last? On average 1 to 3 years depending on skin, sun and aftercare. Maintenance touch-ups extend the result.
I have oily skin — is microblading right for me? Hair strokes hold less well on oily skin; more frequent maintenance or an ombré/combo technique may be advised. We'll discuss this at your consultation.
Can I have microblading while pregnant? As a precaution, the treatment is not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Please ask your doctor.
What will my brows look like right after? Darker and sharper for a few days, then the colour softens by around 30-40% once healed.
Can you correct old permanent make-up? Depending on the condition and colour of the previous work, it is sometimes possible. A prior consultation is essential to assess feasibility.
